4 Seasons of the Best Outdoor Activities in Midcoast Maine

Spring Outdoor Activities

After a long, cold winter, the longer days and warmer temperatures are a welcomed sight in Midcoast Maine. There is much to do in the spring, like bird watching and kayaking, to get you out in the fresh air. Try hiking the Mount Battie Trailsightseeing around Camden, or visiting the Merryspring Nature Center.

The places for fishing in and around Camden are endless. Whether you prefer saltwater fishing or freshwater fishing, Camden has places where you can easily do both! Head to Penobscot River for saltwater fishing, or go to Megunticook Lake if you prefer freshwater. Or take a charter if you want to get to some of the best spots around.

There are tons of parks filled with trails in and around Midcoast Maine for you to enjoy! Two of the top spots for hiking are Acadia National Park and Camden Hills State Park. Our favorite trail between these two parks is a moderate, 2.6-mile trail called “Camden Hills” that takes hikers through wildflowers and up to an ocean lookout. Push just 0.4 miles from the lookout, and you can reach the peak of Mt. Megunticook, one of the tallest mountains in the area.

Summer Outdoor Activities in Midcoast Maine

The Maine Coast is best known for its involvement in the marine world, from marine biology to the amazing lobster served across the state. You can take part as well by boating in Midcoast Maine. Book a unique PenBay Cruise if you are an inexperienced sailor. Or you can sign up with Camden Sailing Charters and take an educational course to learn how to sail.

If you love the ocean, summer is great for swimming at Camden beaches, or for sports lovers, enjoy the stunning landscape while playing golf. In June, the whole town enjoys the Jazz in June festival. Another annual festival loved and adored in Camden is the Windjammer Festival, where we celebrate maritime history over Labor Day weekend with sailboat displays, auctions, food, games, and other festivities!

Summer is also a perfect time for so many things to do that might be too cold in the winter, like visiting the beautiful lighthouses all over the area or hiking the Giant’s Stairs Trail that offers fantastic views of the Magunticook Lake!

If you want to try kayaking, or are a seasoned expert, rent a kayak from places like Maine Sport Outfitters. They offer rentals, lessons, and tours to some of the best places in Camden to learn or practice kayaking. And you will see some of the state’s most fantastic views!

Fall Outdoor Activities

Camden in the fall is one of the most beautiful times of year to enjoy hiking and biking. There are many opportunities to see fall foliage as the season fades into winter. It’s one of the best times of the year to enjoy delicious apple cider and pumpkin spiced. It’s a great time to take a Camden Harbor Cruise or visit Camden Harbor. With so many wildlife and bird species, you can learn to bird watch or find more species.
