Top 5 Camden, Maine, Hiking Trails
1. Mount Battie Trail
Mount Battie Trail is easily the most popular trail in our area. Located in Camden Hills State Park, this attraction takes hikers along a 1.1-mile adventure to its summit. Don’t be fooled, though, just because it’s short doesn’t mean it’s easy! Mount Battie Trail features more than 600 feet of elevation gain. At the summit, you can look out on stunning views of downtown Camden and Penobscot Bay.
2. Maiden Cliff Trail
Maiden Cliff Trail Network is in Camden Hills and boasts 1.8 miles of moderate to advanced difficulty trails. The topography of the trails is rugged, composed mostly of dirt and rock. The first and main route in this network is the Maiden Cliff Trail, which leads hikers one mile to a plateau. From there, you can continue to the Scenic Trail, which makes up the latter portion of the network. At the top, hikers can delight in spectacular views of Megunticook Lake.
3. Beauchamp Point
Beauchamp Point is one of our favorite hiking trails. Located in Rockport, it’s just about a five-minute drive from the Inn and is a spot that’s usually only known to locals. Here, you can follow a wooded dirt road that leads you by Vesper Hill Chapel (an outdoor small chapel overlooking the ocean) and by rock ledges with gorgeous views of Rockport Harbor. It’s also a beautiful place for a picnic lunch.
4. Cameron Mountain Trail
Cameron Mountain Trail is another one of our favorite Camden, Maine, hiking trails. This trail totals about five miles round-trip. At the summit, you can enjoy uninterrupted views of this area’s stunning topography. From there, you can turn around and head back the same way you came or follow west and loop around via Sky Blue Trail.
5. Merryspring Nature Center
Merryspring Nature Center is a 66-acre nature park in Camden that offers various gardens and trails for visitors to explore. The main trail loop takes about 30-40 minutes to complete and winds around the perimeter of the park. Other paths wind around the different theme gardens, a meadow and an arboretum. With so much diverse flora and fauna, it’s truly a delight for all who enjoy nature!
