Founded by Captain Jim Sharp and his wife, Meg, the Sail Power Steam Museum has transformed from a personal collection of maritime artifacts into a thriving hub of nautical history. Located on the historic site of the Old Snow Shipyard, the museum not only celebrates the maritime heritage of Maine but also serves as a reminder of Rockland’s shipbuilding prowess.
Exhibits and Collections
Visitors can explore an extensive collection of boats, steam engines, and maritime memorabilia on a recorded guided tour. Highlights include working boat models, a functioning scale model of a lime kiln, and steam engines that bring the industrial age to life. Additionally, the museum houses a wide range of artifacts, from antique steam and gas machinery to a fascinating Foucault pendulum.
Day Sails and Sailing Classes
Experience the beauty of Rockland Harbor with the museum’s day sails. These are offered by reservation, allowing visitors to experience the thrill of sailing first-hand.
